Opposite of the entrance to the Imperial Garden in Götzstrasse
The monument is located at the beginning of Götzstrasse, opposite the entrance to the Imperial Garden, next to the bus terminal.
The Cultural Heritage Society of Bad Ischl (Ischler Heimatverein) initiated the monument and realized it with the help of numerous sponsors to honor an influential person of Ischl. It was ceremoniously unveiled on 24 November 2022.
Dr. Josef Götz (6 March 1774 – 3 June 1839) was a military doctor. From 1807, he was a saline doctor. He was also a pioneer in the field of smallpox vaccination, and contributed largely to Ischl becoming a spa town. He became an honorary citizen of Ischl.
Details about the monument:
The stone pedestal is made of white artificial stone and the front inscription plaque is made of Untersberg marble, the plaque with the names of the sponsors is made of stainless steel. Both, pedestal and inscription work were made by master stonemason Günter Brucker.
The bronze bust which rises on top of the pedestal was sculpted by Christine Perseis from Mondsee.
