Tänzlgasse 11
The Seilern Villa was built as a classical villa by the Viennese builder Wilhelm Pils in 1881, commissioned by Countess Elise von Seilern und Aspang, daughter of Count Karl Leopold von Stürgkh (note the families’s coats of arms under the gable).
The open and hospitable house hosted many concerts, readings and theater evenings. Alexander Girardi and Johann Strauss were regular guests. Famous aristocrats and even Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the ill-fated heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, also stayed in this beautiful building along Tänzlgasse.
The countess sold the villa in 1909, after which the property changed owners frequently.
In 1951, the OÖ Landeslehrer-Krankenkasse (the health insurance company for teachers of Upper Austria) bought the property including the building, and turned it into a health resort. Decades later, the house was expanded with a spacious and modern extension which was opened in 2008.
Today, in cooperation with Merkur Versicherung, an insurance company, Villa Seilern is run as a wellness resort and seminar hotel.
