ALFRED GRÜNWALD (1884, Vienna – 1951, New York)

Austrian operetta librettist, who worked closely with Franz Lehár, Emmerich Kálmán, Oscar Straus, Leo Fall, Robert Stolz and many others.

Grünwald was very successful and wrote the libretti for The Rose of Stamboul (Die Rose von Stambul), Countess Maritza (Gräfin Mariza) and A Bajader (Die Bajadere).

In 1921, Grünwald bought the house, on which the memorial plaque is located. In 1938, Grünwald managed to flee first to Paris, then to America.
