Below the summit cross of Mount Leonsberg
Below the summit cross of Mount Leonsberg (at 1,745m above sea level, the highest peak of the Zimnitz mountain range) there is a commemorative plaque with the following text:
In commemoration
of
Josef Ramsauer
who died from a stroke here on 30 December 1889 at the age of 53
in the presence of his two sons and three neighbors.
A descendant of the deceased (Mr. Christoph Ramsauer) reports:
“On 30 December 1888, a group of six hikers, my great-great-grandfather with his two sons and three neighbors, climbed to the summit of Mount Leonsberg. They rested on the southern slope about 20m below the summit, from where you have a wonderful view of the Ischl valley.
There, he died from a stroke. Further details, like the reason for the mountain hike in the middle of the (snowless) winter, or the way the deceased was recovered, I couldn’t find out. The commemorative plaque at the scene of the accident was erected by his sons.
Josef Ramsauer was a farmer at Kreutern No. 16. He was awarded a diploma in agriculture, which still exists. The diploma states that Ramsauer (bailiff in Kreutern) was admitted as a real member of the Imperial and Royal Agricultural Society on 10 March 1877.
Mr. Josef Ramsauer was one of two brothers of Johann Michael Ramsauer.
