In 1834, the first imperial and royal post office in Ischl opened.
In 1895, the building with its current appearance was erected in the Neo-Renaissance style, and is very similar to imperial and royal post offices in many cities of the former monarchy.
The house was modern and extremely efficient. For example, in 1897, when a devastating flood hit Ischl and cut it off from the outside world, 15,750 telegrams were sent within six days!
