We could not find out who had this friendly mosaic laid. This luckily doesn’t diminish the fact that residents, walkers and shoppers are happy to be greeted in Latin just opposite the LIBRO shop (which is also Latin and means “book”).
Interesting fact: The same greeting is not only known from Pompeii, but also from the home of famous poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Weimar. He had the saying placed on the parquet floor, where it can still be admired today (see link below).
The ancient artists were particularly good at the art of mosaic laying. Anyone who visits excavations or museums can see for themselves.
