ANTON RITTER VON SCHMERLING (1805, Vienna – 1893, Vienna)
Schmerling was a Member of the Frankfurt Parliament, Minister of Justice (1848-1858), Minister of State (1860-1865), President of the Supreme Court of Justice (1865-1891), President of the Upper House in the Reichsrat (1871), Honorary Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and Honorary Citizen of Bad Ischl (awarded on 12 December 1863)
The plaque was probably installed around 1895. Remarkable is the elaborate font design (originally in gold, today in black) by the stonemason Stadlmann of Ischl.
