Leharkai 12
Around 1575, this house, on the Traun river, was built as salt-preparing (“salzfertiger”*) house. In the middle of the 19th century, it became the property of the Attwenger family, who turned it into a restaurant. This house, on the right shore of the Traun, became known for its wines. Hence, its name: Wine House Attwenger. Anton Bruckner was a close friend of the Attwenger family, and visited regularly, and Johann Nepomuk Attwenger cofounded the Sparkasse Bad Ischl savings bank. Today, the villa has a beautiful restaurant with a delightful dining patio. All of the parlours are still in their original condition and have their cozy ambience.
* “Salzfertiger” were granted rights to dry, pack, sell and ship salt
