Gassnerweg 2
A beautiful old wooden villa above the mouth of the Ischl and the Traun rivers.
In fact, the Traun river does make a corner here, which is probably how the villa got its name!
The first house on this location was built in 1791 and was called "small house at the dock on the Ischl river" (Häusl am Ischlsteg). First owners were Benedikt and Theresia Witzlsteiner.
In 1896, the Prague-based physician Dr. Adolf Ott purchased the house. He commissioned a new villa, which replaced the Biedermeier “Little Schmalnau” (Kleine Schmalnau) coffee tavern, built by Linz-based master builder Steigenberger. The new villa’s ground floor was built from brick, its first floor from wood.
The fifty Italian workers needed to construct the villa were supervised by master builder Michael Treu. For more information about Michael Treu, see Mitteilungen (No. 43) bulletin of the Cultural Heritage Society of Bad Ischl (Ischler Heimatverein), page 61.
In 1937, Erwin and Valerie Kotschy purchased the Trauneck Villa, which is still owned by the Kotschy family. The villa is in good condition and has hardly changed.
