On the border of the municipalities of Bad Ischl and St. Wolfgang, on a sharp bend of the old road to St. Wolfgang (L 546)
Where the wayside shrine on the country road in Haiden stood for decades, a new shrine was built and consecrated in May 2022. It was commissioned by Johann Hollergschwandtner and other residents of Wirling. The shrine, of the Virgin Mary, is made from an old tree trunk with carvings and has a shingled roof which sits on the oak tree’s remaining trunk. In a carved niche, there is a statue of the Virgin Mary with baby Jesus, surrounded by ivy.
A bench in front of the shrine invites visitors to stop and rest. At this point. the old church trail from Wirling separated to Pfandl or Ischl.
The shrine was made by artist Matthäus Mayrhauser, who, among other things, carved the larger-than-life nativity figures in St. Wolfgang.
