The undisputed most famous landmark of Ischl - the crown of town so to speak - is the Calvary with its two-towered church. Since time immemorial there have been four station chapels. To what extent the existing ones are still those from the early days has not been investigated, but it is noticeable that the chapels are different sizes. However, all of them date back to the 18th century and were given a new, still extant decoration in 1866: three pictures each (three Stations of the Cross, whereby the scenes depicted often do not correspond to the traditional station themes) in a common altar-like frame, the room closed off by a wooden balustrade and a wrought-iron grille, tiled floor, imaginative gargoyles on the gutters.

The chapel was last restored in 1984.

In the chapel 1, pictures of the Stations of the Cross (from left to right)
