Commemorative Plaque Brine Pipeline Altaussee - Ischl

As the inscription indicates, the brine pipeline running under the road from the Ausseer salt mines to Ischl and on to the salt woks and the soda factory in Ebensee was built by the soda factory between 1905 and 1907 in order to secure the necessary brine quantities for the rapidly expanding company. In 1908, in view of the 60th anniversary celebrations of his accession to the throne, the line was ceremoniously opened and named after Emperor Franz Joseph. The plaque was restored in 1992. In 2009, during the tunnel cross-section enlargement, which began and was subsequently stopped, the rock at the west portal and the plaque were blast away. The plaque was restored and newly installed between 2014 and 2015, this time on the uphill side.

The large and extraordinarily massive granite plaque with detailed (gilded) inscription, which fortunately was hardly damaged by the blasting, is installed in the rock of the tunnel wall.

The unveiling of the plaque, which was restored by the Cultural Heritage Society of Bad Ischl (Ischler Heimatverein), took place on 28 September 2016.
