The date of origin of this small memorial to Crown Prince Rudolf (1858 – 1889) is unclear as it is missing on the maps of the time around 1900, even though the lime oven just behind the monument is marked on those maps. It was presumably erected only after Emperor Franz Joseph purchased the Sarsteiner estate in 1898. From 1921 to 1922, the monument had to be temporarily deposited due to the pressure from republican circles. The monument commemorates the first deer shot by the Crown Prince Rudolf on 22 August 1867.

In a structure made of quarry and clay stones, there is a thin cast metal plate (once made of bronzed iron) with an inscription crowned by the imperial crown.

The hill with a pit just behind the monument is the remnant of the above-mentioned lime oven.  According to the current terrain formation, the fire mouth was located in the area of the monument, which means the Crown Prince Rudolf Monument could have been erected only after the closure of lime oven.
