The fountain was built around 1875 when the Kurpark garden was laid out, and was probably planned by the architect of the Kurhaus building, Hyazinth Michel. In 1895, on the occasion of the completion of the Wildenstein Mountain Spring Water Pipeline it was converted into a high-jet fountain, and after WWII it was transformed into a lower illuminated fountain. The old cement cast fountain border was renewed during the restoration in 1986, and is made of Untersberg marble.

The low fountain basin, in the form of an elongated quatrefoil with a wide stone border, is located in the main axis of the Congress and Theatre House. It features several water jets in the middle of the pool and in the centres of the circular arches, which are also colourfully illuminated in the evening.
