Schropferplatz Square
At this central square of Bad Ischl, the monarchy comes back to life. The Franz Karl Fountain was designed in 1877 to celebrate Archduke Franz Karl's 50th anniversary as a spa guest in Ischl. Unfortunately, the fountain was only completed in 1881, after his death (1878).
The fountain includes a bronze relief with portraits of Archduke Franz Karl and his wife Archduchess Sophie, as well as the coats of arms of Bavaria, Hungary, and Austria. The figures depict professions that were important in the Salzkammergut: salt boatmen or fishermen, hunters, and miners.
