Traunkai 9a
A shipwreck in 1725 may have been the reason why this beautiful baroque chapel was built. There is a votive painting in chapel depicting the shipwreck - perhaps in gratitude for the rescue.
After a flood in 1920, the chapel had to be restored. At that time, the chapel was owned by the Rothauer family. Father and son Rothauer were involved in the restoration not only financially, but also as craftsmen. The inscription refers to them.
Latin inscription:
Fautores huius loci
indigenis adiuvantibus
artistis hoc sacellum
renovarunt. A.D. 1921
Translation
The protectors of this place
with the support of local
artists of this chapel
renovated. In the Year of Our Lord 1921
“renovarunt” is a short form of the perfect tense. Spelled out, the verb form would be "renovaverunt".
