In October 1894, the brine pipeline path from here to the inn Gstöttn inn (Roith 1, today inn Zum Bären inn) which was Johann Strauss the Younger’s favourite walk, was renamed “Johann-Strauss-Promenade” on the occasion of his 50th anniversary as conductor and band master. A commemorative plaque was also installed.

During the construction of the new Johannes Bridge in 1974/75, the street levels were greatly raised so that the brine pipeline path was filled in this area. For this reason, the plaque now sits far too low. And together, with the surrounding billboards, the plaque really dishonors Johann Strauss.

The plaque is a rectangular red marble stone with profile frame embedded in the conglomerate rock face. Three different fonts were chosen for four words.
