Bauerstraße 13/Emmerich-Kálmán-Straße 1
The magnificent villa with large park was built in 1897, and is still in its original condition today. It was built by the Ischl hotelier Karl Sarsteiner and his wife Anna. In 1917, Emmerich Kálmán moved to the villa for the first time, and made it his summer residence. Even though Kálmán never owned the villa, it is still known as Kálmán Villa.
For Kálmán, it was very important to gain access to the operetta society, so the neighborhood of Hansi Niese and Josef Jarno was also important. Everyone who was anybody in the music and theater scene met here, like Franz Lehár, Leo Slezak, Alexander Girardi, Alfred Grünwald, and many others.
