The operetta composer Emmerich Kálmán (1882 – 1953) was one of the stars of the silver operetta era of the interwar period. For decades, he spent the summers in Ischl (Kálmánstrasse 1).

In 1982 on the occasion of his 100th birthday, Kálmán received a monument in the Kurpark garden in Ischl. The monument is the model for a similar monument from 1977 which is located in Vienna's Türkenschanz park. The portrait bust was created by the Hungarian sculptor Gyula Meszes Toth.

The life-size metal bust was set on a coarsely bossed base made of white artificial stone.
