According to the no-longer extant dedication inscription, Anna Polixena Lidl von Lidlsheim (née Neumann von Neyberg), imperial burgravine of Wildenstein (the only female administrator of Wildenstein), donated the chapel. It was built in 1723 in memory of her son Franz Josef Lidl von Lidlsheim, who died in a shipwreck at Lower Kreuzstein Rock on 1 December 1719.  The chapel is dedicated to the miraculous image of Mariazell because Franz Josef is said to have invoked this Merciful Mother before his death. Only the wrought iron grille in the interior remains of the original chapel.

The current chapel itself bears stylistic features of the Biedermeier period. A renovation date of 1826 is mentioned. In 1904/05 and after a fire in 1912, it was also restored.

The simple windowless chapel with round apse is barrel-vaulted and has a cross-crowned curved gable roof. Inside, on the front side, behind the baroque iron grille, there is the already mentioned picture of the Virgin Mother of Mariazell with an image of the pilgrimage church of Mariazell. On both sides are two stone plaques from 1919 and 1953 in memory of the dead of the two world wars. A few baroque church chairs furnish the chapel.
