Bad Ischl Traunkai 17
The villa was built in 1898 by Max Berkovits.
In 1924, Max Tauber and Aloisia Soffer purchased the house, each a half. In 1930, when Soffer had financial problems, Max’s uncle Richard Tauber purchased Soffer’s half.
As a result, the well-known and famous tenor Richard Tauber (16 May 1891, Linz – 8 January 1948, London) owned a summer residence in Bad Ischl.
However, in 1932, Max Tauber became the owner of the whole house. In 1939 the house “was sold” and given back to him in 1948.
Richard Tauber sang at many opera houses, but felt very attracted to Ischl because of his dear friend Franz Lehár.
Lehár composed parts of his operettas especially for Tauber. Tauber got famous and is still famous for the song “Yours Is My Heart Alone “ (“Dein ist mein ganzes Herz”) from the operetta The Land of Smiles (Das Land des Lächelns)
An interesting fact: the Tauber Villa is close to the Lehár Villa.
