Auböckplatz, Sparkasse bank square
The Trinkhalle builidng in Ischl has the character of an ancient Greek temple and its inscription reflects the motto of imperial physician Dr. Wirer. The construction of the building began in 1829 and the original construction plans reveal that the second inscription was not originally planned. Pictures of that time (one of them can be found in the Museum of the Township of Bad Ischl) show the lettering in full length above the main entrance. During several reconstructions, the inscription was removed from the entrance and placed to the side wings. It has not moved from there, not even during the renovation in 2010.
The building is all white because it was not taken into account that ancient temples were actually very colorfully painted.
The Trinkhalle building was originally called Wirer Spa (“Wirerbad”) and was in use with baths and the drinking cures - a part of the salt cure - until 1936.
After various reconstructions and renovations, the building now houses the tourist office and serves as an event centre.
Latin inscriptions on the east and west gables:
IN SALE ET IN SOLE OMNIA CONSISTUNT
Translation:
All things are based on salt and sun
