Kurhausstraße 9
This beautiful villa was built in 1888, a time when construction was booming. At the time, behind the Kurhaus building (back then used for concerts, balls and entertainment, today the congress and theater house) there was sufficient land available. So, the goldsmith Engelbert Schodterer (1842 - 1923) commissioned the house, which is still in good condition.
For many summers, the villa served as the accommodation for many spa guests and noble families, but was also a meeting point for music and literature lovers.
In 1895, as deputy mayor, Schodterer managed to install the Wildenstein Mountain Spring Water Pipeline, which is still eminently important for Bad Ischl.
The Municipalitiy of Bad Ischl thanked him with an honorary citizenship of Bad Ischl and the construction of a fountain, which is still in Schodterer Villa’s garden.
In 1875, Schodterer opened his own jewelry store on Pfarrgasse. It was run by his descendants until 2021.
