Dumbastraße 8
Cement manufacturing pioneer Baron Heinrich Ohrenstein de Beocsin (“the Cement baron”) commissioned the villa in 1888. Born into a commoner family in Hungary, he started cement manufacturing. His cement factories became the biggest of the monarchy. His contributions to Austria-Hungary were recognized by Emperor Franz Joseph, who ennobled him in 1908 and then granted him the baronial title in 1910.
As was the common thing at the time, his family spent many summers in Ischl, although they often stayed in hotels and not in their own house. During the WWII, they were expropriated, but they only got the house back in 1954. However, none of the family members ever returned to Bad Ischl, and in 1961 the house got a new owner. The buyer beautifully restored the house and as a remembrance, he installed an inscription: "18 Villa Ohrenstein 88".
