Wiesingerstraße 1
August Vielweib (1817 - 1901) was a middle-class knifesmith.
He had earned great merits for Ischl. He was a member of the music association of Ischl, the founder of the commoner music band and co-founder of the saline worker music band. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the saline music band in 1901, the elderly August Vielweib was brought to the festive mass in a sedan chair. Later that year in November, he died in his house, then Elisabethstraße 1.
In 1895, he endowed the Stations of the Cross in the Catholic parish church, which were made by the Meran-based sculptor Sebastian Steiner.
He donated 10,000 Gulden for the foundation of secondary school for boys in 1899.
On 6 August 1900, Vielweib received the honorary citizenship of Bad Ischl.
The villa, built in the classical style, is located directly in Kurpark garden. The composer Oscar Straus and his wife Clara spent the last years of their lives in the villa after returning from exile. In 1876, Straus visited Bad Ischl for the first time and spent many of his childhood years in town and later years in Ischl. Oscar Straus died in Ischl in January 1954.
Unfortunately, the house is in a very bad condition and urgently needs renovation.
