The shrine is a late example of the previously popular “Lourdes Grottoes”; it was built by a neighbor of the farmer Zierler (Ahorn 6) because a relative had brought him holy water from Lourdes and the statue. It was probably constructed in the mid 1930s.

Protected by a small arched door, the Lourdes Madonna is located in a niche made in an inconspicuous rock on the side of the trail. The niche was formed from concrete and boulders of stone.
