This wayside shrine, located on the old "Iron Road", which marks the limits of the market court’s jurisdiction, also bears the name plague column for no known reason.

A cross (Creüz) at this place was mentioned as early as 1627, but the current wayside shrine probably dates back to the 18th century.

The large tabernacle column, made of pink limestone, contains in the wide tabernacle niche a largely renewed painting of the Virgin Mary on wood, which represents the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary found on the high altar of the parish church in Lauffen.
