According to residents of Perneck, the reason for the shrine’s construction was a murder attempt around 1898. Josef St. tried to kill a pig dealer who owed him money.

Some people have also tried to commit suicide here by throwing themselves into the Sulzbach Ravine. Miraculously - take a look down into the ravine from the footbridge - some of them survived.

A few years ago, the shrine was restored.

The carefully crafted baroque-style box, with a curved gable and now gold-plated cross, is set into a second, slightly larger box made simply of boards with a “parapet”. In the box, there is an old print of the Virgin Mary.
